Kata is a modular solution for urban small-space living. As our world grows more crowded, minimizing our square footage is key to reducing our carbon footprint.
Design transcends form–it becomes a way of being.
The bed platform can be raised or lowered to allow full use of the living space. The futon mattress can be rolled up and stored int the cherry wood cabinets, while the cabinet doors can be removed to create a table surface on the bed platform for entertaining or working.
The design was created on a tatami mat grid, borrowed from Japanese interior design tradition. All of the materials were selected to be sustainable, replaceable, functional and beautiful.
